WAGGGS launches global campaign to stop violence against girls

WAGGGS has launched a campaign to end violence against girls, unveiled at the 34th World Conference.

Camilla Lindquist, World Board member, outlined the different types of violence girls face everyday around the world, before revealing the campaign slogan ‘Stop the violence. Speak out for girls’ rights.’

“This campaign is about building a global alliance of people who believe that violence against girls is an injustice that we’ve stayed silent on for too long. Building from a whisper to a shout we need to talk, join together and take action to stop the violence,” said Camilla.

Urjasi Rudra, UN Women representative and coordinator of the Say NO – UNiTE advocacy platform. then presented UN Women’s work in this area. She also talked about the badge curriculum WAGGGS is developing with the support of UN Women.

Delegates filled in pledge cards detailing how they would personally commit to the cause. They then collectively voiced their pledges, filling the plenary with noise and helping to start building “from a whisper to a shout.”
